The style of airports and train stations is now coming to a bus stop near you.
The Dublin Bus logo is being replaced by a screen showing how long you have to wait for what used to be described as "the next car". And it's broken down (oops!) by route.
This is the first one I have seen. It is located at Sybil Hill on the Howth Road on Dublin's Northside. It is a great idea.
Now I will know how long I have to wait for the next bus and whether or not I should start walking. I'll get advance warning of the approach of the usual convoys and record their digital progress for posterity. Assuming, of course, that this is realtime stuff and not a mere regurgitation of the aspirational timetable.
Long may it last.
And there's the rub.
Those lovely glass shelters need regular and frequent repair following damage by late night revellers returning from their late night revels. I'd hate to think the new screens would need replacement as often.
So, for now, it's just a matter of staying tuned and waiting for the arrival of one near you.
